About Marg's Highland Dance Wear Inc. Margs Highland Dance Wear
Inc. is a privately held corporation located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Margs
Highland Dance Wear has been supplying dancers for over 17 years. The company is operated
by Marg Johnson, active in highland dancing for over 30 years. We manufacture and sell Highland and National vests, Highland jackets, Hornpipe and Jig costumes, Aboyne outfits, shawls, slips, peasant blouses, halter-tops, and Jig aprons. We also carry black underwear, velvet (for vests and jackets), washable plaid fabric for National costumes, 100% Wool Tartans for Kilts, Highland buttons, Jig shoes, and Gillies. We also sell CD's and Celtic giftware. All our merchandise meets the dress regulations of the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing, and can be shipped almost anywhere in the world. Margs Highland Dance Wear Inc. accepts EMAIL, PHONE and MAIL orders. We accept VISA, MASTERCARD, MONEY ORDERS, and CHEQUES drawn on CANADIAN bank accounts. We often have our goods for sale at competitions throughout Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Margs Highland Dance Wear Inc. Marg has been meeting the dance
supply needs of highland dancers in Alberta for over 22 years and over the past
10 years
has aggressively expanded to service all of Canada, the United States and the world via
the Internet. Marg has extensive knowledge of highland dancing from her experience as a
parent to the Johnson dancing family and even her own highland dancing days in Bow Hill,
Scotland. Two of Margs children were champion highland dancers, both are members of the British
Association of Teachers of Dancing, and they ran a
successful dance school in Calgary, Alberta where they coached local, national,
and international championship winners.
Marg is a life member of both the Calgary and Alberta Highland Dancing Associations
where she spent over twenty years as a volunteer and holder of several executive office
positions. Upon the receipt of her life memberships in the Alberta and Calgary Highland
Dancing Associations she was commended for "her commitment to providing Alberta dancers
with quality and affordable Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing regulation
costumes". Margs costumes meet all current Scottish Official Board of Highland
Dancing regulations and she keeps up with these regulations through her active
participation in highland dancing associations and relationships with highland dancing
professionals around the world. Many champion dancers wear costumes, plaids, and shoes supplied by Marg and
she prides herself on both her affordable prices and quality products. The People Behind Margs Highland Dance Wear Inc. Marg Johnson, President and Chief
Executive Officer Marg is responsible for the sewing,
design, and fitting of all costumes sold by Margs Highland Dance Wear. She is
constantly searching for better quality materials and dancing supplies to provide her
customers with the best quality dance supplies available at a reasonable cost. Marg is an
accomplished and experienced seamstress with a reputation for
quality products and custom design. Marg has over
thirty years
experience in highland dancing through her active involvement in the dancing careers of
her three children. She has held several executive level positions with the Calgary and
Alberta Highland Dancing Associations, as well as taking on an active role in fundraising
for Calgarys successful hosting of the ScotDance Canada Inter-provincial Highland
Dance Championships in 1994. Marg also works part-time for the Calgary Health Region. Erik Johnson, BComm, CRM, ACII, MIRM, MSc, MBATD Highland - Director Erik is a Director of Margs Highland Dance Wear and provides business advise and web-support to the company. Erik is a Member of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing and a graduate of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. While completing his training as a scholarship student at the RWB (receiving his Ballet Diploma in 1996) he danced as a provincial representative for Manitoba and completed his Members in BATD. He has been active in ScotDance Canada and the British Association of Teachers of Dancing. Erik has been on the Executive Committee of ScotDance Canada and was the Insurance Coordinator for ScotDance Canada. He currently lives in London, UK where he works in the consulting industry. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Master of Science in Risk Management and Insurance as well as his Canadian Risk management, Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, Member of the Institute of Risk Management, and Chartered Insurance Practitioner qualifications. Jennifer Johnson-George, B.Ed, MBATD National, MBATD Highland, MSDTA Highland, MA - Advisor J ennifer acts as an advisor to Margs Highland Dance Wear Inc. She scrutinizes the patterns, fabrics, shoes, swords, and costumes to ensure that they meet the guidelines as set out by the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing. Jennifer has over 25 years of highland dancing experience. She was a Provincial Representative to the Canadian Interprovincial Championships for 10 consecutive years (1988-1997), and is the only person to have won the Sword of the Rockies 5 years in a row at the Rocky Mountain State Championship in Colorado. She has her Member qualification in both the Highland and National branches of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing and her Member qualification from the Scottish Dance Teacher's' Alliance. In 1990 Jennifer started her own Highland Dance School that she sold to a respected teacher and renowned dancer, Kelsie Zebrun last year. Jennifer retired from competitive Highland dancing at the age of 24 when she began working as an elementary school teacher for the Calgary Board of Education. Jennifer is currently Alberta's Secretary for the British Association of Teachers of Dancing and organizes the BATD.'s exam tour in Alberta as well as the BATD.'s Championship Step Lectures and Workshops in Calgary. Jennifer completed her Master of Arts with a specialisation in Interpretive Studies in Education at the University of Calgary's Graduate Division of Educational Research in 2009, her thesis titled "On Pedagogy and Memory" through the Graduate Division of Educational Research at U of C on April 28th.
